Pioneering automated systems for commercial underway replenishment
Commercial shipping is about to undergo a massive shift towards low-carbon fuels. However, the reduced energy density of these fuels means that ships will need to stop and refuel more frequently to make long-distance ocean crossings.
Nexsea provides a lower-cost alternative: provide underway bunkering services at sea.
Unlocking future fuels
Automation for improved safety and control
Nexsea’s proprietary vessel automation systems enable the safe control and maneuvering of ships at near hull distances in conditions up to Beaufort 6 sea states. This allows the transfer of LPG/LNG, Ammonia, and Methanol fuels between ships at sea.
Integrated solutions for at-sea bunker service
Our systems employ the use of autonomous drones for hose and guidewire connection. Industry-standard cargo ship crews require minimal additional training beyond what is already expected for bunkering in port.
Drones are also used to move ship stores and other small-batch cargoes to support continued operations at sea.
Operational Streamlining
For our customers, replenishing ships at sea enables them to operate with fewer port calls, allowing additional savings from port and agency fees.
This capability unlocks entirely new commercial shipping models with reduced downtime, streamlined schedueling, and improved operating margins.
